FAMILY ISLANDS AIRPORTS STRATEGIC AND OPTIMISATION STUDY

The Bahamas

Aviotec International, in association with Stantec Consulting International Ltd. and DKMA Inc., were retained by the Government of Bahamas Civil Aviation Department (BCAD) to undertake a detailed assessment of the 28-government owned and operated airports in the Bahamas and to provide an optimization strategy for each based on traffic projections, market and commercialisation opportunities, physical infrastructure requirements, operational practices, land use considerations, ability to be certified, etc.

The Plan provided the government with a strategy to prioritize the funding and development of their airports, including public-private partnership options. The study also recommended the capital requirements to bring each airport into ICAO Annex 14 compliance. The Team also provided manuals/plans and recommendations with regard to Emergency Preparedness, Safety Management Systems, Hazardous Cargo Management Procedures, Land Use and Sustainability. The project was funded by the Inter-American Development Bank and is a key element of an important Air Transport Reform Programme.

The study was completed in July 2014.  The Team was subsequently retained by BCAD in 2015 to prepare Master Plans for four key airports (North Eleuthera, Exuma, San Salvador and Governor's Harbour).
