Aviotec - Physical and Operational Assessments for Hospital Heliports in Northern Alberta
Aviotec International has been retained by Alberta Health Services (AHS) to undertake physical and operational assessments of four (4) hospital heliports in Northern Alberta. The heliports are located at:
Consort Hospital & Care Centre;
Lamont Health Care Centre;
Ponoka Hospital & Care Centre; and
Wetaskiwin Hospital & Care Centre.
The hospital heliports are served by STARS (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society), a non-profit organization which provides rapid and specialized emergency care and transportation for critically ill and injured patients in Alberta, as well as eastern British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, using a fleet of eight (8) Airbus/Kawasaki BK117 and three (3) AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters.
The purpose of the assessments is to identify any gaps in compliance with Canadian Aviation Regulation (CAR) 325 standards, as well as identify any aviation and public safety risks. Based on the outcome of the assessments, Aviotec will also update the physical characteristics, operational practices and emergency response procedures as documented in the Heliport Operations Manual (HOM) for each facility. Following Transport Canada's review and approval of the updated HOM's, the specific heliport entries in the Canadian Flight Supplement (as published by Nav Canada) will be revised as required.
The heliport assessments and document updates are expected to be completed by early December 2016.
