News - Jamaican Government to Issue Second Tender for Norman Manley International Airport

The Jamaican government is making a second attempt to find an 'experienced private investor' to operate, finance and develop Kingston's Norman Manley International Airport. A previous attempt to do so was launched in December 2014 but was scrapped after the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) tender process failed to attract an acceptable bid.

Its decision to try again follows the continued success of the privately operated Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, and by its own admission the government is committed to finding an experienced private investor to modernise the gateway to enhance its competitive position.

Like before, the Government of Jamaica through the Ministry of Transport and Mining (MTM) has approved a transparent international, competitive tender process. Together with the Development Bank of Jamaica, Jamiaca's Privatization Agency and PPP Unit and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) as its lead advisor, the government is expected to issue an invitation for prequalification applications in early December 2016.
